Transitional Kindergarten

The Transitional Kindergarten program is for children age 5 by October 1. Each day consists of free play with a purpose, a special project, group activities music, singing, story time, math and reading readiness skills at circle time, show, tell, and listen, and outdoor play.

Program Information:

Monday - Friday (5 days) 8:45 - 11:30 AM

Social/Emotional Development

  • Understands concept of community

  • Respects others and their property

  • Listens in class and responds appropriately

  • Follows directions and classroom routines

  • Accepts direction from teacher

  • Exhibits self-confidence and independence

Physical Development

  • Participates in Zaner-Bloser handwriting program

  • Hones fine and gross motor skills

  • Participates in weekly gym class – gross motor skills (jump, balance, run, hop, march)

  • Participates in outdoor play activities

Cognitive/Intellectual Development

Creative Development

  • Recognizes own name and names of peers in print

  • Phonetically builds and writes words

  • Puts events in sequence

  • Recognizes same/different

  • Counts, writes, knows numbers, and understands basic math concepts

  • Recognizes attributes of more complex shapes

  • Recognizes letters and their corresponding phonetic sounds

  • Knows and writes full name, address, phone number

  • Participates in art activities with many different medias

  • Expresses self through play, art and creative writing

  • Participates in music class with a specialist and music activities
